The Moon's Thoughts
Shreya Sahai Bhatnagar

[You're the sun,
I'm the moon.]
Oh dear Sun, your colours are beautiful as ever,
They are worth seeing,
Whereas I am only dull and grey,
Nothing close to you.
You shine yourself,
So bright and elegant,
While I need your light to be seen,
Though it only shows my scars.
You give me time every day,
So I can reflect on myself,
While you on the other hand,
Cover each corner of the Earth.
So I ask myself,
"Why do they look at me instead?
When the bright and perfect is doing so much more?"
Because I think they're wrong for doing so,
I am of no use,
Only faults and scars to see,
Which they look at through big telescopes.
But every time they see me,
They say I am so beautiful,
It makes me feel so loved,
And very grateful too.
So, thank you, Sun,
For all the help and support.
You appreciate me,
And give me light.
Where I see you from afar,
Loving what you are,
It makes me say to myself,
“Oh, dear Moon, you should be like that too”.
