"Hey" she said to her overjoyed child,

“Here’s a green balloon for you,”,

She hands it over,

A happiness to her young mind,

"Should I have gotten a blue?".

"I love it mother",

"I love you too",

"I don't need another",

"Neither green nor blue".

Mother smiles,

She walks away,

A year passes by,

A gain it is the same day.

She is not here this time,

No balloon,

Her child is sad and alone.

"Hey" the foster parent says,

"Happy birthday",

She hands over a card,

And a star moulded using green clay,

"Should I have gotten a blue star for you?".

"I love it new mother",

"I love you too",

"I don't need another",

"Neither green nor blue.

One more year,

Again, the time is here,

No parent,

This time she sheds a tear.

"I miss you mom",

"Please come back",

She sings to herself,

On the floor of the old shack.

She dreams of her mom,

Bringing her the green balloon,

"Should I have gotten a blue",

Then she bids adieu.

“I love it mother",

"I love you too",

"I don't need another",

"Neither green nor blue".

She wakes from her past,

She mumbles to herself,

"It never does last",

Walking alone to the store,

Buying a green balloon once more.

"This is my balloon",

"I gave it to myself",

"My green balloon",

"I don’t need nobody else"
